The Faculty of Biology at Baku State University is the leading science and education center in the country for biology-related specialties. Currently, over 1,200 students are studying in 6 different programs at the undergraduate level in Azerbaijani, Russian, and English languages. For the Biology program, both full-time and part-time forms of education are available. Graduates of the bachelor’s program may continue their studies at the master's and doctoral levels.
There are 6 departments within the Faculty of Biology:
- Biophysics and Biochemistry
- Botany and Plant Physiology
- Genetics
- Molecular Biology and Biotechnology
- Zoology and Physiology
- ICESCO Biomedical Materials
Each department has teaching laboratories related to various fields of biology. In addition to coursework, students engage in scientific research within departments, work on projects, and participate in scientific conferences. The faculty employs 1 academician, 1 corresponding member of ANAS (Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences), 15 doctors of science, 55 candidates of science (PhDs in Biology), and 8 instructors, ensuring high-quality training of specialists.
Graduates of the Faculty of Biology are highly qualified professionals who meet the demands of the labor market. They are equipped with all the necessary knowledge to pursue further studies at leading foreign universities. The faculty maintains both national and international collaborations. Numerous international projects enable students to undertake productive internships and participate in inter-university exchange programs.

The Faculty offers undergraduate education in the following 6 specialties:
- Biology – Graduates gain fundamental knowledge and skills and can work in biology-related research institutes of the Ministry of Science and Education, in industrial labs (food, pharmaceutical, etc.), water quality control labs, and scientific research labs in medical institutions.
- Biology Teaching – Graduates are trained as modern educators and can work as biology teachers in secondary schools across the country.
- Aquatic Bioresources and Aquaculture – Graduates are qualified to work in institutions involved in the cultivation, protection, and production of fish and other freshwater/marine products.
- Biotechnology – Graduates with modern biotech knowledge and skills can work in production facilities based on biotechnological processes (e.g., dairy, meat products, beverages, food products, pharmaceuticals, etc.).
- Plant Protection – Graduates can find employment in institutions under the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, national parks, nature reserves, and scientific research institutes.
- Food Engineering – Graduates learn to analyze the quality and properties of raw materials and products, the use of food additives, production processes, and stages of various food products. They can work at the Food Safety Institute, food standard organizations, hotels, restaurants, and production facilities in this field.
Graduates of the Faculty of Biology can also participate as specialists in projects aimed at eliminating the consequences of ecological terrorism in the liberated territories.
Regardless of the specialty, the organization of teaching and scientific activities at the faculty ensures the training of highly qualified personnel who can compete in the labor market and with graduates of foreign universities.
Students at the Faculty of Biology also lead active social lives. Through membership in the Student Trade Union Committee, the Student Youth Organization, and the Student Scientific Society, they implement various social projects, engage in scientific research, organize and participate in events at both university and faculty levels, and take part in state-level events.
