Uzbek doctoral candidates and Baku State University students participated in a scientific and practical internship program in Azerbaijan

At the initiative of the Faculty of Biology, a scientific and practical internship program was organized with the participation of doctoral candidates from Bukhara Medical University, who arrived for training, as well as the faculty’s master’s students and first-year students majoring in “Biotechnology.” The aim of the program was to provide participants with direct exposure to modern laboratory technologies, applied analytical methods, and current research areas.
Within the framework of the internship program, participants became acquainted with the scientific research conducted in the specialized laboratories of the Faculty of Biology at Baku State University. They were informed about projects carried out in the fields of molecular biology, biochemistry, genetic analysis, and plant biotechnology. The operating principles of laboratory equipment, stages of sample preparation, and interpretation of analytical results were explained in a practical format. This stage was particularly important for reinforcing students’ theoretical knowledge in a real laboratory environment.
As part of the program, participants also visited the Department of Biochemistry and clinical laboratories at Azerbaijan Medical University under the supervision of Associate Professor Roza Mammadova, a faculty member of the Department of Molecular Biology and Biotechnologies. Presentations were delivered on the organization of clinical laboratory diagnostics, the application of molecular biological methods in medicine, and fully automated analytical systems. In the Clinical Diagnostic Laboratory, the identification of samples using a barcode system and the high-throughput analysis process were demonstrated.
The visit continued the following day at the Research Institute of Crop Husbandry. Participants were informed about the institute’s agrarian-biological research directions and laboratory analysis methods. As part of the internship, a practical training session on the “Glacial Advance” capillary electrophoresis system was conducted by Ismail Hakkı Taş, Director of Science and Innovation at QIAGEN. The operating principles of the device and the analysis of results were explained in detail.
The program contributed to the development of knowledge and practical skills in a real laboratory setting for both Uzbek doctoral candidates and Baku State University students, fostered the expansion of international scientific cooperation, and supported the formation of future joint research initiatives.
