The “Forensic Genome Expertise Simulation” organized at Baku State University by the Student Youth Organization of the Faculty of Biology was successfully held
On May 12, 2025, the interactive training-simulation event titled “Forensic Genome Expertise Simulation” commenced at Baku State University and continued for three days. The event was organized by the Faculty of Biology, the Student Youth Organization of the Faculty of Biology, and the Department of Criminalistics and Forensic Expertise of the Faculty of Law. Professors, teaching staff, and students from both the Faculty of Biology and the Faculty of Law participated in the event.
Three student teams took part in the simulation. The main goal of the event was to provide students with practical knowledge and skills in the field of forensic-genomic expertise and to develop their research abilities by involving them in the scientific analysis of evidence.
-
On the first day, participants were given theoretical information about biological and genetic tests used in forensic genetic expertise and their areas of application.
-
On the second day, teams conducted research based on materials provided to them and carried out analysis and interpretation processes.
-
On the final day, teams presented the results of their work. During the presentation session, Dean of the Faculty of Biology, Afət Məmmədova, emphasized the significance of this specialty in the modern era. Then, Head of the Department of Criminalistics and Forensic Expertise of the Faculty of Law, Professor Kamil Səlimov, highlighted the importance of such practical training for students' future professional careers. Nigar Hüseynova, Chair of the Faculty of Biology Student Youth Organization, introduced the teams to the panel of judges and wished them success.
All three teams were highly praised by the jury. According to the jury's decision, Team 167A was declared the winner and awarded certificates.
It is worth noting that this initiative was carried out in accordance with Clause 2.1.5 of the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan on the Establishment of the Forensic Expertise Council, which emphasizes the need to open specialized educational programs (majors) and analyze the possibilities of aligning higher education institutions with forensic expertise activities.
In addition to improving their scientific research skills and teamwork abilities, students also became familiar with real-life processes in forensic-genomic expertise. The simulation attracted great interest and is planned to be continued in the coming years.
