The article titled “Chemosensitizing effect of apigenin on T-ALL cell therapy,” co-authored by PhD Nigar Huseynova, Prof. Afat Mammadova, Prof. Ravshan Khalilov, and Prof. Yusuf Baran from the Department of Biophysics and Biochemistry, has been published in the Q1-category journal *Frontiers in Pharmacology*, published by Frontiers. This research was supported by the “Türkiye Scholarships” research program for 2024–2025.
The study reported in the article demonstrated that the combination of the natural flavonoid apigenin with L-asparaginase exhibits a stronger cytotoxic effect against T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T-ALL) cells. As a result of this synergistic effect, cell proliferation was significantly reduced, and a higher apoptotic effect was observed compared to L-asparaginase monotherapy. These findings indicate that, due to the chemosensitizing effect of apigenin, high efficacy can be achieved even at lower doses of L-asparaginase, presenting a treatment strategy with minimal side effects. This combination is considered promising for developing new therapeutic approaches for T-ALL.
