The study investigated the long-term effects of cobalt nitrate in mice with atherosclerosis. To model atherosclerosis, a multifactorial method was applied, and the animals were administered 2 mg/kg cobalt nitrate for 60 days. The results showed that cobalt further increases oxidative stress and causes significant alterations in hematological parameters. Chronic cobalt exposure led to a decrease in hemoglobin levels, a reduction in erythrocyte count, and an overall decline in blood cell numbers.
The research demonstrates that cobalt exacerbates vascular damage in atherosclerosis patients, thereby activating oxidative and inflammatory mechanisms.
