First-year Master’s students of the Department of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology of the Faculty of Biology, under the supervision of Associate Professor Roza Mammadova, participated in a scientific-practical training organized at the Modern Breeding and Molecular Biology Laboratory of the Agriculture Research Institute operating under the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

The training, conducted in a modern laboratory environment, was devoted to the practical acquisition of skills in DNA isolation from plant leaf tissue and the principles of working with molecular markers. During the session, the Master’s students not only observed the process but also personally carried out all stages of DNA isolation, including sample preparation, cell lysis, centrifugation, and purification of genetic material. The interactive format of the training enabled each participant to independently perform the laboratory procedures.

The training was conducted by Halima Mammadova, Head of the Laboratory at the institute, and Elchin Hajiyev, Head of the Immunogenetics Department of the Genetic Resources Institute. Both researchers provided detailed information on the methodological foundations of molecular-genetic analyses, laboratory safety regulations, and the application of molecular marker systems in breeding programs and the assessment of genetic diversity.

The main objective of the event was to strengthen the Master’s students’ theoretical knowledge in plant genomics and molecular genetics within a practical setting, to develop their research skills, and to enhance their competence in working with modern laboratory technologies.
