Faculty members of the Faculty of Biology participated in an international event

On May 22, 2026, an international event dedicated to the International Day for Biological Diversity was held in the Neftchala district of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The event brought together renowned specialists in fisheries and aquaculture from Azerbaijan, Türkiye, the Czech Republic, Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Georgia, as well as deputy ambassadors of Japan and the Republic of Korea.
The event featured speeches by the Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Majnun Mammadov, Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Vugar Karimov, Director of the Fisheries and Aquaculture Center under the Ministry of Agriculture Jeyhun Aliyev, as well as a representative of the Partnership and Liaison Office of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in Azerbaijan.
Baku State University was represented at the international event by staff members of the Faculty of Biology: Associate Professor of the Department of Zoology and Physiology, PhD in Biology, Chingiz Mammadov, and Lecturer of the Department of Botany, PhD in Biology, Vazeh Bakhshiyev.
As part of the event, 300–400 gram juveniles of various sturgeon species, bred at sturgeon hatcheries and initially adapted to seawater conditions, were released into the Caspian Sea with the participation of specialists. Subsequently, the participants visited the fish-breeding facility of Azerbaijan Fish Farm LLC operating in the Neftchala district. During the visit, information was provided on modern innovative technologies used in the maintenance and breeding of broodstock of various sturgeon species.
The event was of significant importance for the conservation of biodiversity, the restoration of sturgeon populations, the expansion of international cooperation in aquaculture, and the exchange of scientific and practical experience.
