A scientific seminar on “Forensic Genetics and STR Analysis” was organized by the Student Scientific Society (SSS) of the Faculty of Biology. The event featured a presentation by Ofelya Abdullayeva, a second-year student of the Faculty of Biology.
During the seminar, participants discussed general concepts of forensic genetics, the biological significance and stages of STR analysis, techniques for collecting biological samples, their types, and the proper use of an autoclave. The seminar also addressed the well-known Colin Pitchfork case and examined how errors made during forensic analyses can negatively affect people’s lives.
Particular emphasis was placed on the importance of strictly following sterilization procedures for laboratory equipment, especially autoclaves, in order to prevent cross-contamination during the DNA examination process.
Rasim Abbaszade, Chair of the Student Scientific Society of the Faculty of Biology, also addressed the audience, emphasizing that scientific accuracy in a sensitive field such as forensic genetics carries a great responsibility. He expressed his appreciation to the speaker for the informative and engaging presentation and thanked all participants for their involvement.
The event concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session and lively discussions.
