A scientific and educational event titled “Multidisciplinary Approaches to Drug Addiction” was held

On October 17, 2025, a scientific and educational event titled “Multidisciplinary Approaches to Drug Addiction” was held, organized by the Student Youth Organization of the Faculty of Biology at Baku State University.
The event was opened by Yusif Abiyev, Deputy Dean for Social Affairs of the Faculty of Biology, who emphasized the importance of strengthening preventive measures against drug addiction among youth and highlighted the necessity of combining scientific, social, and educational approaches in this field.
Next, Professor Kamil Salimov, Head of the Department of Criminalistics and Forensic Expertise at the Faculty of Law of BSU, spoke about the legal mechanisms to combat the illegal circulation of narcotic substances, the existing legislative framework, and the role of legal awareness in society. He noted that increasing young people's legal literacy is a crucial component in the fight against drug addiction.
Dr. Araz Aliquliyev, a narcologist, delivered a detailed presentation on the effects of narcotic substances on the human body, the stages of addiction, treatment methods, and the challenges of the rehabilitation process. Drawing from real clinical experience, he urged young people to choose a healthy lifestyle.
Emilya İgidova, a lecturer at the Department of Psychology, Faculty of Social Sciences and Psychology of BSU, discussed the psychological causes of drug addiction, its impact on personality development, and the role of family and environmental factors. She stressed the importance of implementing psychological support programs in schools and universities to strengthen students’ emotional resilience.
One of the event’s guests, Polad Aga İbrahimov, Director of the Caucasus Experimental Drama Theater and an actor, spoke about the role of art and culture in maintaining spiritual well-being. He emphasized that theater, creativity, and a sense of social responsibility serve as powerful tools in the fight against drug addiction.
During the event, an educational video illustrating the consequences of drug addiction was shown, and students performed a short play titled “The Devil’s Game”, which offered an artistic perspective on the psychological and social impacts of addiction and drew significant attention from the audience.
In conclusion, participants actively engaged in discussions and addressed their questions to the speakers. Guests highlighted the event’s educational and preventive importance in raising awareness among young people.
